Abstract

The uncatalysed reactions of peroxydisulphate with L(-) arabinose, D(-) fructose and lactose ((called arabinose, fructose and lactose respectively, throughout this paper)) were investigated kinetically. The reactions were first order in peroxydisulphate and of fractional order in substrate concentrations. The kinetic nature is discussed and the rate law is deduced from a suggested mechanism.
